About Peter

Peter Robbins is one of Ireland's foremost experts in innovation and new product and service development.

Until Autumn 2009, he has been the global head of innovation excellence for GlaxoSmithKline where he led many of the worldwide, new product launches for Lucozade, Aquafresh, Sensodyne, Panadol, Ribena, alli and NiQuitin.

Peter's PhD is in Innovation. His area of research is how large firms organise for innovation. He is a faculty member and programme director in innovation with the School of Business in NUI Maynooth. He has a particular interest in radical innovation.

Peter also runs the Innovation Foundation (www.innovationfoundation.ie) which is an agency that specialises in creating, incubating and implementing new business ideas for clients. In essence, Peter helps businesses grow through innovation. Most businesses will have innovation as a key priority but many need help translating the priority into a tangible, actionable, commercial innovation roadmap for their business.

The Innovation Foundation works closely with organisations to help them enhance their capacity to innovate. This can involve: setting up innovation teams; developing innovation structures and processes; creating an innovation roadmap for the organisation; running courses and workshops or even just giving a master-class on innovation to the management team.

He is an innovation advisor to the Governments development agencies and has developed and run courses and workshops in innovation for organisations in the public and private sector. He is on a number of innovation advisory boards including one for one of the largest firms in the world.

Peter has worked with some prestige clients including Hennessy Spirits; McDonalds; Coillte; Glanbia; Elan; Failte Ireland; Bord na Mona, IDA; Tobin Engineering; Deloitte; Teagasc, BNP Paribas, Airfield, ICON Healthcare, Pfizer – helping them build innovation capability and create a pipeline of innovation.

Peter is on the faculty of Maynooth University in the Department of Design Innovation where he is Academic Director and Centre Manager for EDEN (eden.nuim.ie) , the University's centre for entrepreneurship, creativity and Design Thinking. Peter delivers all the innovation courses for the IMI; he teaches on the MBA's in Trinity College and NCI and is an adjunct lecturer for DCU and DIT.
